Year 7 Transition

We are delighted that you have chosen to join The Elms Academy. We have worked closely with your primary schools to ensure that transition from Year 6 into Year 7 is as smooth and stress free as possible.

The school web site has a wealth of important information about the academy. At the top right hand corner of each page you'll find a PARENTS and STUDENTS portal. For parents we've posted term dates, newsletters, the Parent Handbook and more. For students; Show My Homework, Hegarty Maths, the House System amongst other useful resources. Please familiarise yourself with these areas of the web site along with checking this page for additional updated content.

We recognise this next stage of your child's school career can be exciting but it can also create some anxiety for the family. Rest assured, we will be on hand to support you every step of the way.

Key Dates for families joining us in Year 7 in September 2024

Year 6 Interviews – Tuesday 18^th June – 4.00pm – 6.00pm

All students and families will be invited to transition interviews which are taking place on Tuesday 18^th June. You and your child will have the opportunity to meet a member of the Key Stage 3 or Senior Leadership Team. Colleagues from School Uniform Direct will also be on hand to meet with you and answer any questions you may have.

Induction Day – Thursday 27^th June – 9.00am – 3.00pm

This is for all Year 6 students joining us in September. Students should report to The Elms Academy at 9:00am and should wear their primary school uniform. If they do not have their uniform, they should be dressed smartly. Students will attend taster lessons and experience something of secondary school learning. They will be given squash and biscuits at break as well as a free lunch. The day finishes at 3:00pm.

Induction Evening (Parents & Students) – Tuesday 9^th July – 5.00pm – 6.30pm

This evening starts at 5.00pm and will provide an opportunity for you to meet staff and other parents, and to find out more about The Elms Academy experience. You will be given all the information you will need about transition and have a chance to ask any questions.

The Elms Academy Summer Camp

Our free transition summer programme was highly successful last year. Students enjoyed a range of sport, creative and academic activities, while making new friends, learning our routines and getting to know our staff. It enabled children who took part to feel prepared and look forward to September because they had already spent time at The Elms Academy. This will run from Monday 22^nd July until Friday 26^th July from 9.00am until 3.00pm each day.

First school day for Year 7 – Wednesday 4^th September at 8.25am

Finally, the first day at The Elms Academy for the new Year 7 students will start at 8:25am on Wednesday 4^th September. All of our students will attend an induction assembly to ensure that they are set up for success in their learning and behaviour and to make sure that they understand our expectations.
