I hope you all had a lovely, restful, and enjoyable Christmas break, with plenty of time spent with family and friends. It’s been fantastic to see everyone back and ready for the new term — and what a great start we’ve had!
We’ve certainly started back with a bang, as the countdown is well and truly on for AP1 exams for Years 7, 8, 9, and 12. It’s been wonderful to see the hard work and dedication from our students as they prepare for these assessments. They’re taking their revision seriously and are eager to show off what they know. Please do continue to encourage them to use their revision checklists to review content thoroughly — these exams begin on Monday. We wish all of Key Stage 3 and Year 12 the very best of luck as they sit their exams next week!

A very warm welcome back after our May half-term break! It’s been fantastic to
see students returning to school looking refreshed, revitalised, and ready to
tackle the final half-term of the academic year.
This last stretch is slightly longer than usual—seven weeks in total—and it’s
absolutely packed with exciting opportunities and memorable events. From
summer concerts and sports day to Cultural Capital Week, drop-down days, and a
range of rewards and golden postcard trips, there is so much to look forward to
and celebrate together as a school community.

As we approach the end of a short but highly productive half-term, I want to take
a moment to reflect on the fantastic work and achievements of our students. The
past few weeks have been full of learning, enrichment, and preparation for
upcoming exams, and I am incredibly proud of our school community.

It has been another productive week at The Elms Academy. Congratulations to our Year 11 and 13 students on successfully completing their latest exams. With just two weeks remaining until AP2 assessments, students across other year groups are demonstrating strong commitment and a clear focus on improving their rank order. Our revision launch was well received, and students should now be using their checklists to guide their preparation. At this critical stage, consistent attendance remains essential—thank you for your continued support.

There’s a real buzz around school at the moment. Year 11 are fully engaged in their exams and approaching them with great focus and determination—it’s inspiring to see how hard they’re working. Year 13 start their exams next week, and we know they’re ready to give it their all. A huge well done to all our students in exam mode—you’re showing such ambition and grit. Keep going—your effort and resilience are really shining through.

What an exciting and enjoyable week it’s been at The Elms! Our Charities Week has truly brought the school community together. From “I’m a Teacher, Get Me Out of Here!” to the thrilling Staff vs Student Dodgeball, Sponge the Teacher, and of course the very popular Elms Tuck Shop, the atmosphere has been incredible. Staff and students alike have embraced the fun and the spirit of giving, all while raising money for some fantastic local causes. A huge thank you to everyone involved!

As we approach the end of term, there is fantastic learning happening across the school. This week, we welcomed several visitors from the Trust, who provided overwhelmingly positive feedback on the high standards of teaching and learning. With just 15 days until the first GCSE and A-level exams, we are focusing on maintaining excellent attendance—every minute counts, especially for Year 11 and Year 13 students. We are also eagerly reviewing the data from mock exams and celebrating the successes, which indicate we are on track for another strong set of results this summer. Well done to all students and staff for their continued hard work.

As we end the half term, I want to highlight the fantastic work that is happening right across our school. Visiting lessons has been inspiring, with teachers delivering outstanding lessons and students showing great focus and enthusiasm. Their resilience and ambition are leading to impressive progress, and I am incredibly proud of their dedication.

As we near the end of this half-term, I've been reflecting on our students' many
achievements. They've shown fantastic progress in lessons and enjoyed exciting
enrichment activities. A highlight was Thursday's house drop-down day, filled
with creativity and teamwork through MasterChef challenges, young
entrepreneurs, drama performances, and a t-shirt design competition.

students have been working incredibly hard, with Year 10, 11, and 13 preparing
for mock exams, and Key Stage 3 students striving for excellence after their
recent mock results. It's been a pleasure to see in lessons this week.
