JOY AT LAMBETH ACADEMY FOR GCSE DAY

As GCSE qualifications are awarded across the country, there was joy at Lambeth Academy as students discovered how they had fared in their external examinations.

This year, more than three quarters of students (78%) achieved a grade 4 or above in both English and maths, with 60% achieving a grade 5 or above in the two subjects. Impressively, over a quarter of the academy’s Year 11s (28%) achieved a grade 7 or higher in English and maths.

This year, more than three quarters of students (78%) achieved a grade 4 or above in both English and maths, with 60% achieving a grade 5 or above in the two subjects. Impressively, over a quarter of the academy’s Year 11s (28%) achieved a grade 7 or higher in English and maths.

Across individual subjects too, there were some strong achievements at the higher level, including:

  • In Spanish, 64% of students achieving a grade 7 or above;
  • In Religious Education, 47% of students achieving a grade 7 or above;
  • In Business, 58% of students achieving a grade 7 or above;
  • In English Literature, 42% grade of students achieving a grade 7 or above.

In addition to the positive overall picture, there were a number of individual successes. Among the top performers were:

  • Gavin Evans and Matthew Domingo, who both achieved nine grade 9s and one grade 8;
  • Siam Chowdhury and Teresa Peixoto, who both achieved eight grade 9s and three grade 8s;
  • Sumaya Ali, who achieved eight grade 9s and two grade 8s;
  • Jose Medeiros Cortes, who achieved five grade 9s and six grade 8s;
  • Gabriele Simalyte, who achieved five grade 9s, four grade 8s and one grade 7;
  • Maisy Gascoyne, who achieved six grade 9s, two grade 8s and two grade 7s;
  • Petro Koumarakou, who achieved five grade 9s, two grade 8s and one grade 6.

These GCSE achievements mirrored the success seen at Lambeth Academy’s Sixth Form last week, when many Year 13s celebrated securing the grades they needed to gain places at prestigious universities.

With more than half of all A Level entries scoring the top A* or A grades at 57%, university destinations included a number of Russell Group institutions – including the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge – for a range of high-quality courses.

This summer’s results come as the school prepares to start a new chapter as The Elms Academy from 1st September. Students, staff and friends of the academy will celebrate this next step as they return to classes in two short weeks.

Commenting on these achievements, Amy Welch, Principal at Lambeth Academy, said:

“We are delighted with this summer’s successes across both GCSE and A Level qualifications, cementing the work we have done in recent years to establish a whole-school culture of ambition and achievement. Most of all, we are proud of our students and the way they have risen to the challenge of their external examinations and fought for the best possible grades for themselves.

“Across our school, we are incredibly excited to start a new chapter as The Elms Academy and to do so with such a strong record of achievement this academic year is even more gratifying. Thank you to our fantastic staff team, as well as our wider school community, for their ongoing support and efforts to make the academy a place of success for students and families.”

Leon Wilson, Executive Principal at Lambeth Academy, said:

“Our Year 11s are an excellent group of students who have persevered through the challenges of the pandemic and shown enthusiasm and dedication across their academic studies. Their celebrations today are well deserved and their results will prepare them to enter the next stage of education with confidence in what they can achieve. I know staff will be looking forward to warmly welcoming many of them back to our Sixth Form to build on these successes at A Level.”
